DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC
prepared the Master Plan and Specifications for
pedestrian and vehicular success in an area
bounded by a three acre parking lot and five
student dormitories and a new food services
building. The client's goal was to create a more
comfortable and secure pedestrian experience for
outdoor recreation, entertainment and dinning
areas, while maintaining fire and service access
to all buildings from existing access points.
Specific attention was paid to improving the
aesthetics and anticipated function of this
large area, which has at its center, twenty
seven story Pearce Ford residential tower.
The plans are based on site and user
analysis, as well as the perceived use of the
new food services building by as many as five of
the largest dormitories on the campus of over
19,000 students. The Master Plan calls for
amenities such as seat walls, new sidewalks and
plaza areas, an (outdoor) entertainment venue,
inclusion of campus signature furnishings, storm
water bio-swales, new plantings and preservation
of 93% of the large healthy trees.
Construction of Phase I will be completed in
winter of 2008, and two more phases of
construction will begin in the summer of 2009.
