Western Kentucky University in partnership with the City of Bowling Green is making plans for construction of a complex of buildings that will serve the university and the local community as a center for visual and the performing arts. The regional arts project was proposed to include a new building that will be located near the university and adjacent to the historic town square and will provide 128,000 square feet of multi-purpose theater for symphonic, dance, drama and traveling productions as well as providing space for an art gallery and a creative learning center. As a part of this complex, the existing Capital Theatre located in downtown Bowling Green will be renovated from its current capacity of 800 to form a more intimate 450 seat auditorium.
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC was contracted to prepare boundary and topographic surveys for properties comprising two full city blocks adjacent to the campus of Western Kentucky University for eventual use in the SKyPAC complex. Nearly all the individual lots had one of more existing structures at the time we performed this work, totaling 27 various outbuildings, apartments buildings, storefronts and individual houses around which we had to work. Further, several existing rock retaining walls and fences complicated the topography and the boundary descriptions. DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC performed the field and courthouse research, field reconnaissance, boundary and topographic surveys, office calculations, plat drawings and deed descriptions for these tracts. Today this extensive piece of property is paved and utilized as two parking lots that are safe, close and big enough for residence hall parking. They are served by the university shuttle bus, and equipped with emergency call stations.
